My fiance and I were in Charlotte for a business trip and made Soul Gastrolounge one of the main events. He hadn't been for decades (when they were in their previous location), but has been craving the pork belly tacos ever since. I'm a picky eater, so was nervous to give them a try (I got the AMAZING grilled cheese), but one bite had me hooked! Our server was attentive, even though it started to get pretty busy. The atmosphere was dark and had an eclectic ambiance - the peacock on the wall being my main view. It was an enjoyable date night! Definitely recommend the tacos and super fancy grilled cheese!!

Soul is one of my fav spots in Charlotte. The vibes are always great, I always feel welcomed and the food is always great. The service has been spectacular too from my server with the locs and glasses. You can tell he really cares about the experience. Soul is a perfect spot for a birthday dinner, time with friends, and/or date night location. The photos are from my recent visit and those prior. I will say, last time when we visited, the food runners passed us almost every single time with our food. If it’s one thing I HATE, it’s my food being taken to another table. Idc if it’s sat down or talked over, can’t stand it. Idk if the tables near the DJ are mislabeled, but that bothered me. It’s like we weren’t even sitting there, which made no sense bc they all walked past us. Also, I would recommend a little more TLC on the wine glasses and silverware.

Giving this place 5 stars because: 1. The service was amazing. 2. The vibes were awesome (the dj/live music is such a cool thing to have and really made me feel like I was enjoying a true experience, rather than just eating a meal). 3. Some of the food is truly TO DIE FOR. And 4. I truly think everyone should go here and will enjoy an awesome meal and have an awesome experience. However, if I could go back and do it again, I would make a few tweaks. First, I wouldn’t order the house Sauvignon blanc. Don’t know what it is about it but did not enjoy it and couldn’t even finish my glass. Can probably sum that one up to simply personal preferences, so can’t fault the restaurant for that. 2nd- I truly feel that the only appetizer worth getting is the pork belly tacos. We also got the fried chicken skins and the spicy feta dip.Definitely don’t get those. I don’t really understand why some of these apps are on the menu. They were so mid compared to the sushi. With that being said, DO GET THE SUSHI. Holy cow- the soul roll and the midnight Tokyo rolls were two of the best sushi rolls I have ever had in my life. Would most definitely go back for the dj, pork belly tacos, and sushi rolls.

If I could give it 5 more stars I would! Best customer service I've had in Charlotte hands down. And the food... let's just say my mouth is watering at the thought of going back. The drinks great too. They made great recommendations. I don't have pictures of all the food we ate because we were digging in, but I was able to take a few. There is a DJ on site setting the mood and ambiance (but nothing that takes away from the table's conversation). There is also something like a speakeasy next door that is easily accessible with good vibes. Bob (especially Bob), Sara, and JJ were incredible. Don't hesitate, just go!!

11/5/2025, if there was a 10 star option I would choose that. This place has the food and vibe!! I have been waiting for this place to open back up! It's been a long time waiting and of course it did not disappoint!!! Our server was awesome as well. I ordered a little bit of a lot! Truffle fries, avocado stack, shrimp ceveiche, pork belly tacos, and the Asian shortrib. Everything was delicious but I will say the short rib was not my favorite but wanted to try something new. For dessert I ordered The baklava ice cream and it was phenomenal!! I forgot to order the tuna tacos!! Next time I will try some of their sushi rolls! My bill total was $93 + $20 tip. I did not order any alcoholic drinks, just had the famous cucumber water. Soul Gastrolounge is a place I always recommend to locals and visitors! The food, service, and atmosphere are great!! I highly recommend stopping here for dinner!! It will be packed on the weekend! I will say I miss the old location off Central Ave but they did an awesome job replicating the vibe of the original location. Welcome back Soul Gastrolounge!! You definitely hit some souls with this food and vibe!!
